When
the course was opened, many golfers rated this as their favorite hole on the front
side. It is a true test of golf, a very strong Par-4 which twists between rocks
along the left, and trees along the right, and finishes with an approach to a
long, narrow, elevated green. Because of the holes length, the way the green perches
precariously below the clubhouse, and a prevailing left to right wind, the second
shot requires great precision. Built into an amphitheater - "worthy of hosting
the Ryder Cup", as one golf publication stated - the ninth green caused one
golfer to utter "I swear it felt like there were 10,000 people, hands wide
open, ready to applaud."
