With
run-off and surface drainage flowing towards the green, a timber-clad storm ditch
was incorporated which crosses the hole some 40 yards in front of the green. Again,
this is a deceptive hole. The lone bunker between the ditch and the green is raised
in such a way that it creates dead ground. Looking from the tee, it
appears as if the bunker is on the edge of the green - in fact there is some 30
yards from the front edge to the putting surface. Therefore it is another optical
illusion, where the green appears to be closer than it actually is, creating a
likelihood for golfers to come up short. A skilled golfer will take careful note
of the yardage and also make allowances for the elevated tees.
