Clive started off in partnership with Peter Alliss in 1998, and they rapidly became the largest golf course design company in Europe. Many of the designs were created for private golf clubs, although courses such as Heron's Reach in Blackpool and Alcaidesa in Spain were involved with substantial hotel and housing developments.

Clark, a skilled artist who makes detailed drawings of each hole before ground is broken, emphasizes variety, balance, and playability in his designs. His goal is to provide an exciting and pleasurable golfing experience, while preserving the tradition and integrity of the game.
